Montenegro. The youngest country of Europe since it voted for its independence on May 28, 2006.

The north is hilly and sparsely populated. Milovan Djilas wrote: "It is an area of extreme scantiness and devoring silence. In its stony heights every liveliness and everything created by man is lost. The sound crumbles on the sharp edges of the stones and the light is grinded on its ridges ... Here is neither the silence of the desert nor the wideness of the sea but still something of this is present - in the silence of the stones and the endlessness of the sky in the hight. Plains and small valleys, small walled fields between the rocks, everything is more narrow and more lost than in other karsts. The trees are gnarled, misformed, mutilated as young sprouts and cut by men, and dried on the bare lime stones; there is no oak, no hornbeam, no common beech, only dry, prim, hardly green grass - a phantastic dream world ... everything is stone.

The Boka Kotor is a fjord. Seamen lived here since centuries. Near Perast, an artificial island made from ship wrecks was made to build a church.
